HEIC Converter — Convert iPhone Photos to JPG/PNG

Convert HEIC photos from your iPhone or iPad to universally compatible JPG or PNG format. All processing happens in your browser.

What is HEIC?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the default photo format on iPhones and iPads since iOS 11. It uses HEVC (H.265) compression to produce files that are roughly half the size of equivalent JPEG photos while maintaining the same quality.

While HEIC is great for saving storage space on your phone, it's not widely supported outside the Apple ecosystem. Windows requires a paid codec extension, and many web services and applications can't handle HEIC files. Converting to JPG solves all compatibility issues.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are my iPhone photos in HEIC format?

Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos in HEIC by default because it produces smaller files than JPG while keeping the same quality. You can change this in Settings > Camera > Formats.

Can I open HEIC on Windows?

Windows doesn't fully support HEIC natively. You need either the HEIF Image Extensions from the Microsoft Store (which may require a paid HEVC codec) or a converter like PixFlip.

Is it safe to convert my photos here?

Yes. All conversion happens in your browser using WebAssembly. Your photos never leave your device — nothing is uploaded to any server.

Will I lose photo quality?

When converting to JPG at the default 85% quality setting, the difference is virtually imperceptible. For zero quality loss, convert to PNG instead.
